Getting New Ringtones From Myxer

Most people know how to get new ringtones from their cell phone carrier. This can give you a lot of great mobile ringtones to choose from, but it isn't the only place to find new ringtones. There are a lot of websites that specialize in mobile phone ringtones. This article explores one of the best mobile ringtone sites out there, called Myxer. It's very popular and and for good reason: it's easy to use and has a great selection of ringtones.

First, just a little bit of information about Myxer's service. Here is a quote from their website: "Myxer began ... with one goal in mind - to be the champion for indie bands and musicians that want their voice heard in the mobile space." It should come as no surprise then, that you'll find a lot of mobile ringtones from independent artists on there website. However, you can also find a nice mix of bigger names in there as well. They also have a feature that allows users to create and upload ringtones to share with others. Having all of these sources means that there are quite a few ringtones to choose from.

The site does have some "Premium" (ie. not free) content. However a lot of the ringtones on Myxer's site are completely free! The Premium ringtones cost about the same as ringtones from most cell phone carriers.

I know you are waiting to hear what the catch is. But interestingly enough there doesn't seem to be one. In fact, you don't even have to register for an account to start getting ringtones. If you're ready to start now, just follow these steps:

  1. Browse or search myxer.com for the mobile phone ringtone you want and click the "Send to Phone" or "Buy Now" button.
  2. Put in your cell phone number, agree to the terms of use, and click the "Send to Phone" or "Buy Now" button. (If you're buying one, they'll just bill you through your cell phone carrier, so you don't need to give them credit card info.)
  3. You'll receive a text message with a download link in it. Just follow the link to download the ringtone.
  4. Select the file you just downloaded, as your ringtone. (You do that in your phone settings.)
You're done! That's all there is to it. Myxer is simple to use, has a lot of free content, and a ton of great Premium ringtones. Why not give them a spin?

Myxer isn't the only good website for ringtones. With a little searching you can find many others, but please take the following advice. You have to be careful when you are researching these sites, especially the "free" ones. Read the fine print! A lot of them are NOT really free. Yes, they will send you a free ringtone, but they also sign you up for a subscription service. Most of them won't even send you a separate bill, they'll just bill you through your phone provider. So you won't even know they're charging you until you see your next statement. If you're investigating any ringtone website make sure you read the fine print.
