We learned on Wednesday that mobile Internet traffic on Black Friday dominated over Cyber Monday in 2009. But which cell phones and smartphones were the top-selling picks by consumers?
Simplexity, which is an Internet retailer of cell phones and plans, announced on Tuesday that the five best-selling cell phones and smartphones during this Thanksgiving weekend (Nov. 27, 2009, which was Black Friday, to Nov. 30, 2009, which was Cyber Monday) were:
1. DROID by Motorola for Verizon Wireless: This touch screen, full-keyboard slider smartphone has surprised the wireless world with one of the strongest debuts since the iPhone. Featuring Google's Android 2.0 operating system, the DROID features a large and brilliant display, free turn-by-turn GPS navigation and a high-quality camera.
2. BlackBerry Bold 9700 for AT&T: The 9700 (also known as the Bold 2) is the successor to the high-end BlackBerry Bold that was released in 2008. It's the thinnest and lightest BlackBerry yet and it has 3G speeds and Wi-Fi (for getting online at Starbucks, for example, instead of using AT&T).
3. BlackBerry Storm2 9550 for Verizon Wireless: While this next generation of the BlackBerry Storm touch screen phone looks like the original Storm, it features upgrades such as Wi-Fi and an improved typing system for more accurate and speedy text entry.
4. Samsung Impression A877 for AT&T: This phone has the nation's first AMOLED display, which is designed to provide a crisper and brighter screen. It also features a 3-megapixel camera and camcorder, a full keyboard and a 3.2-inch touch screen that's visible even in direct sunlight.
5. Palm Pre for Sprint: This is the first smartphone to be equipped with Palm's innovative WebOS user interface. The Pre has excellent multitasking abilities, a bright touch screen, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, Wi-Fi and a 3-megapixel camera.
